ARE YOU KEEPING UP WITH THE RAPID CHANGES IN THE SETA & QCTO LANDSCAPE?
The Minister of Education, Science, and Innovation, Dr Blade Nzimande, recently announced the extension of SOME pre-2009 Qualifications via the Government Gazette dated 3rd June 2024.
What does this extension mean
The deadline date for enrolling learners on all historical SETA-registered qualifications was initially set for 30th June 2024, however the above directive has now extended this date for SOME qualifications.
However, there is still some uncertainty around the actual implications of the extension and how it will work in practice. In particular, it remains unclear what the exact timeframe of the extension will be as the directive refers to “a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 2 years”.
Employers should also be aware of the risk of technical and administrative hiccups when trying to register learners on some of the extended programmes due to certain SETAs’ systems not being updated in line with the latest extension.
