Employment Equity Act: what’s changing?

The long-awaited amendments to the Employment Equity Act 55 of 1998 (EEA) are set to come into effect later this year. We share some of the most significant amendments that the Employment Equity Amendment Bill will introduce when it is scheduled to become effective on 1 September 2023.

Although the EEA Amendment Bill is currently in draft, all indications are that the finalisation of the regulations is imminent, with all current Employment Equity plans expected to become redundant at the end of August 2023. Employers are advised to acquaint themselves with the amendments to determine how they will affect their businesses and transformation plans in the future.
